Abstract – Tuhinga Whakarāpopoto
This think piece presents four scenarios of autonomous vehicle adoption and then present some of the potential impacts on travel behaviour, urban form, and wellbeing, with a particular focus on ageing populations. The scenarios range between an axis from high and low automation and an axis from hyper and collaborative consumption. Although there is a wealth of accumulated knowledge around the interactions, there is also considerable uncertainty. This means governance and policy decisions are crucial in determining the impact of autonomous vehicles.
